Fear of the unknown:
Characters:
Jack- “Scared?’ Not scared so much as paralyzed; hung up here imobline

rocked violently. He lay silent for a moment, then muttered.
"keep a good lookout. It may be following." A shower of ash
pattered around them. jack sat up."i saw a thing bulge on the

Events:
The beast has been a symbol for the fear of the boys on the
island for most of the novel, however in this chapter we see that it takes a
dominate role in the fears of the boys. Jack wanted to for once and for all hunt
the beast that was causing them fear. However, Ralph was a skiddish, hesitant
and fearful of going up the mountain in search of the beast when it was so dark.
In the end though, the boys did go up. As the boys were making their way up the
moutain, you could tell that they were much scarred, especially Ralph. Then, the
boys thought that they see something moving and assume it was the beast and ran
down the mountain. They don’t even consider that it could be something else. As
you can see, the darkness covered them to what they were actually seeing and
there fear
